The gases produced by the combustion of the fuel and the reduction of the ore, escape at the top of the blast furnace through pipes /ducts, called uptakes (4 uptakes which merge into two offtakes/pant legs). The two offtakes/pant-legs merge into one downcomer duct, which leave the blast furnace near the top.
